University Chancellor visits Roger’s Piano to see hometown piano competition live via Yamaha Disklavier
This past weekend, Roger’s Piano was pleased to host University of Alaska, Fairbanks’ Chancellor Brian Rogers and his wife Sherry Modrow for a live viewing of the Alaska International Piano e-Competition Award Ceremony and Concert. The Chancellor and his wife were traveling in Boston at the time, and stopped by Roger’s to watch the live broadcast of the the event via
the Yamaha Disklavier player piano.
The competition took place in three rounds in the Davis Concert Hall on campus, and was judged by an international panel of renowned musicians, and culminating with a performance with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra for each finalist. Through the use of a Yamaha Disklavier, a premier Internet-connected player piano, the performances taking place live in the Davis Concert Hall were shared with international audiences, as other connected Disklaviers around the globe play synchronously with the performer, displaying the precise keystrokes and pedal technique of each musician in real time.
A webcast accompanied the performance as well, allowing international audiences to follow this far north competition from their own homes, schools and communities.
The winners of this competition were awarded more than $65,000 in prize money and performances, including performances in Chicago and New York City.
