The average size of grand piano measures 5 feet in width and between 6’5” to 7’4” for the larger models. That being said, concert grand pianos can measure up to 9’6” in length. The width of the piano is the same for the full grand model and the baby grand, since both of them feature the 88 keys of the standard piano keyboard.
Some rare grand pianos such as the Bosendorfer Imperial feature 97 piano keys, with a total width of 5.9 feet to accommodate them but the standard dimensions for a grand piano is 5 feet in width.
How Much Does a Grand Piano Cost?
The average entry level grand piano costs between $9000 – 30,000. High end grand piano models such as Yamaha, Steinway and Bosendorfer can set you back between $65,000 and close to $200,000. New pianos generally tend to cost a bit more, between $120,000 and $200,000, with the price being highly dependent on its finishes and internal hardware quality.
How Much Does a Piano Weigh?
Your average grand piano will weigh in at about 700 to 800 pounds, with concert grand pianos weighing in at around 800 to 850 pounds, depending on its finishes. The total weight of the instrument depends on the type of wood used, the amount of acrylic elements as well as the piano’s internal hardware. Different brands of pianos tend to weigh in differently, although not substantially.
